While awaiting refurbishment of my McIntosh 240 tube amp, I've been driving the Revel's with a spare Crown XLS Class D amp. It works well. Quiet, plenty of power, but sort of "etched." Certainly ok as an interim amp. However, I could not resist trying the Revel's with another 6L6-based tube amp, so I've connected my Ideal Innovations 60 amp, which also uses 6L6 tubes.
Quite a difference. Luminous, detailed, but not necessarily analytical. Really wonderful.
Can't wait to try the McIntosh, though I'm thrilled with the Ideal Innovations amp. I may just build another system around it.
