RE: CAF standouts

I thought there were alot of good rooms again this year. When highlighting my faves, I refuse to mention the mega-buck systems (generously defined as over $200k), cuz if it doesn't sound good at that price, it's criminal. Anyway, a few random thoughts:

- High Water Sound with Cessaro speakers. Jeffrey Catalano always does a superb job.

- Fern & Roby with Raven IIs and the new integrated amp. Christopher Hildebrand is one of the nicest people around, and his systems always please.

- Margules system - Wow! Natural sounding and gorgeous to look at. And Julian Margules was like a proud papa (understandably).

- Gestalt Audio - both their rooms were quite good, but the Cinnamon Audio (from Portugal) speakers were really interesting, and drop-dead gorgeous (to me).

- Audio Note - Their room was really good this year. Of course they were rocking gear from the upper reaches of their line, but I thought they got the setup right this time, so it really showed off what can be magical about AN.

- American Sound of Canada - Angie could have done a better job marketing the room, but she brought back the Rethms this year, this time with Synthesis Audio integrateds. She's the new North America distributor for Synthesis, and this system had beautiful synergy (source was a new German turntable, Perpetuum Ebner). I would encourage others to check out Rethm speakers - they're special and not expensive at all; problem is Angie is looking for U.S. dealers.

- Songer Audio - Ken Songer teamed his single drivers with a 4 watt Whammerdyne integrated, and it was delightful. And he's a really nice guy.

- Audience 1+1 - Unbelievable sound from a single driver (with bass reflex) in a tiny cabinet. An amazing product from a great company. Apparently they have a floor stander in the works.

- Odeon Audio speakers - I had never heard these horn speakers before, but teamed with Airtight amplification, I thought they sounded incredibly lifelike, as if I were at the center front table at Blues Alley in DC.

There were others, but these stood out to me as special in one way or another.
