I owned the Border Patrol DAC a few years ago. I really enjoyed it. Very realistic sounding. However, I found it very mid forward and mid dominant. It felt rolled off in the lows and highs. It lacked dynamics and soundstage. As magical as the mids were, it was too much of a one trick pony.

I haven't owned the Audial S5, but it looks very intriguing, especially with those transformer outputs.

I wonder if the S5 is more well rounded than the Border Patrol DAC. Would love to try it in my system one day.
