Eventually it will come in handy, but it may be at least several years before we have any universal hardware standards and compelling software to make 1.3 necessary.Currently, and in the immediate future, keeping the HDMI and other video switching chores in a seperate box divorced from all audioo streams is IMHO a more sensible and sonically superior way to go.
