Re: Altmann Attraction DAC practicalities

I've been using deep-cycle Sealed Lead Acid Optima Yellow Top and Enersys Odyssey batteries safely in the home for years now. They are shippable with acid inside because they don't leak or boil off if charged properly. To maximize battery life and prevent overcharging, use a three-stage low-output charger like the 1.5AH Ibex or Intellitender. You can put a signal-powered LCD panel meter across the battery to observe its charge/discharge behavior. When the battery starts to fail to hold a charge, replace it. It's worth the trouble as well-executed battery-power is kick-ass in a DAC or CDP.

Of course homes with solar power have large batteries in the basement. But for high-performance you want those DC cables as short as possible and preferably decoupled with fast capacitance.

I'd be more concerned about the cats mounting or pissing on the open DAC. The DAC could easily be enclosed in a project case.
