Most people here will tell you to buy the 2000, and it is a fine player in many ways. But the original Planet has some things going for it- in particular a more robust build quality, and a sound more unique in the digital realm. In my view, the 2000 brought the sound closer to what most users would expect from digital. The original has a truly unique sound, but this had the effect of putting off a certain percentage of listeners. The 2000 is more detailed, with tighter bass, but the original has a presentation that I haven't heard before- or since. You may or may not care for it; I for one tend to appreciate the original more than the 2000.
