Home Digital Drive

Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Re: cheep...Toshiba SD-3990

I guess you get what you pay for, but I bought a 3980 and it barely lasted 6 months. I also have a 3960 that I did the Swenson mod on that had problems almost from the start. I figured I messed it up when I did the mod, but it turns out the drawer mechanism was all gummed up. I cleaned it all up and re-lubed it and its been working fine.

My original Magnavox FD1000, the true first CD player, lasted for 20 years without any issues. The main problem is it didn't sound very good. I also still have an original Sony discman that still gets used on a regular basis as my kitchen system. It has grease all over it from cooking but it still works. It also must be 20 years old. They don't make 'em like they used to.
