Re: USA-Balance of Payment Problem-Hassle in Ordering

I have always had a good experience with USA vendors (although I guess my experience is limited to some of the better known ones). However I have come across a couple of instances where credit cards have not been accepted. The solution has been to have a cheque drawn in the vendor's favour on an American bank. I assume that you are in the UK from your comments and all of our big banks have US associates e.g. HSBC and Wells Fargo (and others). It costs a few quid (17 last time I did this), but a bank transfer to a foreign bank is probably also chargeable. In this scenario you don't have to know details of the vendor's bank as it will be the same to him as if you hold an account in the USA. Your bank will send you the cheque and you mail it to the vendor. Just a thought.
