As a repair tech I would 1st check powersupplies; do all regulators deliver what they are called for? And I would check the soldering of the chassis parts to the PCB. One gets often bad joints by repeated unplugging.
The externally supply can also self destruct if the plug into the DAC is halfway in as it is making a hard short-circuit then. Soooo foolish of the AA guys! I blew a supply of a AA unit that way.
