I believe it to be one of the best bargains out there. I think that it excells in it's ability to give a 3 D image of the soundstage. Though I agree that it has a slightly forwarward presentation, I'll add that it has one of the deepest fields I've ever heard from a digital source. The musicians never seem crowded in the mix. The bass was very focused and deep. In fact on some tracks it seemed almost sub-sonic. I remember listening to Fleetwood Mac with Stevie Nicks singing Landslide. I could sense the space of the room she was recording in through the decay of her vocals. Though I can't imagine a much better player, I've never listened to the Cary CDP, but I've compaired it to many over twice the price and the Bluenote is still my favorite. I don't own one yet, but I myself plan on getting one in the near future.Good luck....I hope this helped a bit,
