i think that Gmood1 is talking about the later version of the Monarch DIP - the 24/96 version - which has a 24/96 digital receiver (the Crystal/Cirrus Logic 8427 which recovers the clock from the incoming digital data & upsamples to 96Khz before passing on the data to the DAC.
So, if you are using the Classic Monarchy DIP then I can see why you need a GW Labs upsampler.
The newer 24/96 Maonarchy DIP has this 2-in-1 function as far as I can tell.
