I did most if not all of those 5 things (plus an in-store audition at one point) and had decided to buy a CJ MV60SE power amp to replace my MF2250. How could I possibly not like it afterall, based on the glorious reviews and feedback I heard from every source I contacted? Then I found a dealer willing and eager to let me home audition it. Ultimately, I didn't like the sound nearly as much as the MF2250 and my wife flat out hated it. Phew!
Not that I hadn't been disappointed before by a decision to buy a piece based only on in-story audtions and reviews (Krell KAV300i, e.g.), but this time I was SOOOO sure I'd love this raved-about tube amp!
Note I am not saying the MV60SE isn't great - ask most people and they'll say it is, but only that it seemed like such a sure bet and yet it didn't work for me, in my system and my listening room, and ONLY a home audition saved me from buying it.
