Masterlink ML9600 Question

I recently acquired an Alesis Masterlink ML9600 and am exploring the capabilities of this interesting machine. In addition to the analog input through the tape loop of my linestage, I connected the coaxial digital output of my Sony NS999ES CDP to the digital input of the Masterlink. Problem is, the Masterlink does not allow me to select the digital input on the front panel and will not communicate with the Sony. Everything else seems to work. Any thoughts?
