I have my 1+ months of experience w/ the Apollo to offer on this subject.

The moment I started waiting for initialization to FULLY complete, I stopped having any problems.

In terms of Planet vs. Apollo, you'd have to figure that Rega wanted to improve on the Planet. IMO the Apollo is the best <$1K CD player I have ever heard (and I heard most of the usual suspects) - but that might be because I am a sucker for smooth/liquid/analog sound.

In the latest issue of Absolute Sound, they use the Rega in their two most expensive recommended "budget" systems configurations.

I am thrilled with the Apollo and I recommend it without hesitation.
(Note that I am not a slobbering Rega fan or particularly easy to please. I would not, for example, buy again or recommend the much heralded Rega's P3 turntable. I thing there are several better options out there for the price of the P3, but with the Apollo I believe they really have something.)
