P,I feel your pain.
I have 200 cds, and most are from the 80s. I have bought maybe 5 in the last 5-6 years.
But, I still enjoy them, and yes some of the newer ones don't have quite the Dynamic range of the earlier stuff, but they are still good to listen to.
If you like the sound of upsampling, a PC based system might improve things and make the newer ones better sounding, and it is a way to DIY digital.
From a philosophical standpoint, most philosophies start with BKMD.
Being, Knowing, Making and Doing. Ie. Who we are is defined at birth, we learn, make things and do things.
THe existentialists rightly reverse this to DMKB. You are what you do, and through doing one makes things and gains knowledge and finally at death becomes. (This is not a spiritual thing, but mearly, when one is dead, who they are is no longer changing, and it is clear who they are).
Anyhow, I think you should DO something.
