The real question is what is your voltage and are you willing to risk damage to the unit? I don't think that there would be a fire hazard as much as a nuisense fuse blowing saga. You can get "step down transformers" or even line conditioners that will allow you to reduce or limit the voltage at their output.
I have 125v present here consistently, so I wouldn't feel comfortable running a 100v unit. If the unit has a 120v tap inside, you need to have someone change that for you and you are set to go.
