CD Player

Hi,

I am looking to buy a new CD player and I think I've narrowed the choices down to the Lector Alpha or the Quad 99 CDP2. Price used between the two? Buying the Quad is a no brainer at maybe $800 whereas the Lector Alpha goes for about $1700. Both plus shipping. I read the reviews on both and of course they are both stunning. In fact a friend of mine who is much more into digital than I am compared the Lector Alpha to the Lector CD 7 and rather liked much more about the Alpha than he didn't like about it as compared to the CD 7, whereas he didn't like a lot about the 7 but he will keep it because his losses would be too great as he is the original owner. He said the highs are bit rolled off and the lows as well which tends to bring the midrange out a bit more. That is common of tubed output stages which is what is in the 7 but not the Alpha.

Any comments or other ideas would certainly be appreciated. The cost is an issue but I will sepnd what I have to get what I would like.

Thanks!
