Something that's not clear about the RAM unit...

...is whether it's actually taking the optical signal, converting it to coax, and passing it out to the coax output. I can't see any documentation on this, but it appears that it may just be two completely separate switches - one that can switch two coax signals to a common coax output, and one that can switch two TosLink signals to a common TosLink output. For cross-conversion to work, the switches would need to be more than two-throw. I suspect it's not doing this.

I had a brief look at the Manley docs, but my eyes glazed over when I realized the manual had no pictures at all - no block diagram or picture of the back panel. This means reading the entire manual cover-to-cover to figure out what's going on. It does appear to be a very capable unit though.
