Cary 303/300 - Telefunken ECC802S - treble performance

When I use neutral cables and powerline products that do not boost or cut high frequencies, I can judge the influence of tubes in the Cary CD 303/300.

I do not find the Telefunken ECC802S' treble to be rolled off per se. I hear full extension (listen for pointy eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee sounds). However, instruments with treble info are pushed back in the soundstage. This placement places emphasis on the mids and bass, which can be more upfront and "present." There is excellent quality to the treble. If a triangle is recorded competently, you'll hear the strikes and the decay. However, while quality is top-notch, I just wish there were more of it!

When I play pink noise, all frequencies should be equally represented. But with the Telefunken ECC802S, I wouldn't doubt that the treble measures slightly down, relative to the rest of the spectrum. So again, it's not an issue of quality or extension; rather it is one of quantity.

If you plan to stick with the Telefunken ECC802S in the CD 303/300, I strongly recommend getting an Oyaide SWO-XXX outlet (preserves treble extension, soundstage depth, and image specificity). Then get an Acrolink 6N powercord, with Oyaide P/C-046 plugs. These have the same plating material as the XXX outlet.
