Take the CD player out of the stereo system, plug it into the AC and turn the power on without a cd in the drive.Take your volt meter and measure the DC Voltage on the analog rca output connectors from center pin to ground. Use the 2V setting on your digital meter.
If there is 0V or 0.003 then I think your caps are OK as far as blocking DC voltage. If you measure any voltage above 0 volts ( or whateve your meter goes down to when you touch the positive and negative probes together ) then you have a problem. The blocking cap should be the last thing in line before the output connector. Maybe you wired something incorrectly during your modifications.
If you think your caps are shorted then remove them ( one at a time ) and use the ohm meter to measure the DC resistance accross the cap. Put the meter in the ohms setting and make sure to move the test lead over to ohms too. Touch the leads together to see the meter go to zero ohms. Now measure the cap for any resistance. If you get anything less than infinity (open circuit) then the cap is shorted.
It's hard to imagine that both (L,R) caps shorted out at the same time unless you messed up your player by wiring it wrong. If you have DC on the output of your player but the caps did not measure shorted when removed from the player, then you probably have something else damaged inside of your player or the caps are not wired in correctly. BTW, don't try to measure the DC resistance of the caps if they are soldered in the circuit because you will not get a correct reading. You will be measuring something else.Best of luck,
QE
