Home Digital Drive

Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

O RLLY?

Yes, a car battery makes a lovely, somewhat stable power source.

Unfortunately, attached to the battery are alternators, ignition coils, lights (sometimes of the strobe-LED variety) a few computers, pumps, motors, and all types of other gadgets. All, usually, common grounded to chasis. Which is, basically, a huge antenna for picking up EMI/RFI from nearby power lines.

OEM car radios go through extensive testing to prove they are tolerant and can filter out most of this junk. The aftermarket stuff, usually, not so much.

If a car audio system sounds good, it's in spite of, not because of, it's power source.
