Modding is definitely one route. I'm actually pretty handy with a soldering iron, so could do some of this myself. and I've done the usual mods on the toshiba 3950 and 9200 (my current cd player). I'm just a little leary of spending $1000+ and then operating on it!Your comparison of the modded Marantz and DAC1 is very helpful. Thanks.
