recommendation to replace the BNC connector - a service he offers to DAC1 owners on his website. It's quite clear from the Benchmark manual that the BNC connection has an impedance of 75 ohms. It even mention the AES and SMPTE standards this adheres to. As the DAC1 was designed for professional applications, I'm sure this has been the case since its introduction.The manual also states that the "(BNC) input has a 75 ohm internal termination that may be disabled" by removing a jumper to allow a studio pro to loop a single coaxial feed through several other pieces of equipment, providing a 75 ohm termination is applied at the last device on the loop.
It's possible that the physical connector is indeed 50 ohms but, in combination with the internal termination, the connection yields the required 75 ohm impedance.
Which still begs the question about why one would want to replace the connector.
