Theta Basic Data II Transport

Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

With respect, I am not completely familiar with this transport -- but one was offered to me with the cd tray door missing and on play back, discs read fine, but there is some skipping.
Can someone who knows this transport tell me if the 'skipping' is a symptom of a laser mechanism going bad (with a percentage of certainty if possible) -- or something else -- I have interest in the player soley for the laser mechanism to act as a back-up for my transport's laser. Still I don't want to just throw my money away on a gamble.
