Mates,Perhaps this should be posted in Video, but as the Toshiba 3960 was a "Digital" forum fetish for so long, I thought there would be more people with experience here.
With the arrival of the Cambridge Audio Azur 640C, my Toshiba is now actually a DVD player. The thing is, I have friends in Germany, Italy, and the UK who send me DVDs- these are usually of recording sessions or concerts (my friend in Italy is a record producer in France, UK friend is a conductor), music festivals, but I have to spend $25-30 each time having PAL to NTSC conversions done at a pro-video shop. The results vary too and the conversions are sometimes badly washed out- desaturated, and/or have a lot of aliasing- saw-tooth edges to objects. The shop shrugs and does not guarantee any level of quality.
But, I heard murmmurings that the 3960- as well as quite a few other players -can be programmed through the remote to play DVDs from all regions.
Does anyone know if this is possible- and/or have the sequence to re-programme the 3960 for all-region DVD?
Alternately, do you know of a commonly available budget all-region player?
It's silly, but I don't have a PAL disc still around to try, and I'm told my new computer DVD-ROM may read PAL- or it may need conversion software.
Anyone here have a bit tired of dealing with their "PAL"?
Thanks!
Cheers,
Bambi B
