RE: Accuphase 40th Anniversary Edition ( Cloned ) IC's

Thought I would post here with some comments on these IC's and also the Accuphase 40th power cords, also being discussed in the "Tangram" thread.

I've been running the 40th power cords exclusively in my system for about the past year and have been really impressed with them (they replaced Viborg 1501's). Even without experimenting with replacing the male and IEC ends I have been thrilled with them and really have no desire to mess around with them at this point. Perhaps I'm just getting old, but I'm just at a stage where I feel my system is sounding very good and I'm happy to enjoy the music. But the 40th power cords have been a major contributor to that.

Comments on the IC's here late last year led me to buy 4 of the 40th IC's (with the standard RCA's as opposed to the WBT clones-I am generally not a fan of rhodium or silver plating in my system anyway) as well as a 40th Anniversary USB cable-had to have that one custom made by an Ali seller in a 5M length.

I initially had problems within my system when inserting the USB cable which were not related in the end to the cable itself (very long streaming story which I'll pass on telling). Those took a week or two to resolve but I've been living for the past couple of months now running a full loom of Accuphase 40th in my main system (7 power cords, 3 sets of the IC's and the USB cable) and have been really happy with the results.

This cabling (even without experimenting with different connectors, RCA's etc.) just sounds extremely "right" and natural to me. The USB cable was a noticeable improvement on what was probably a Furutech clone (although the packaging it came in looked incredibly real); the IC's replaced Chinese Nordost Odin Gold which had displaced some well known, highly thought of commercial IC's which shall remain nameless which I sold off for around $700 Cnd for 2 sets of IC's.

I also had the Odin Gold cryoed and burned in on a cable cooker. Was unable to cryo the Accuphase IC's and didn't bother with the USB cable either but did have the Accuphase IC's run in on a cable cooker for about 72 hours.

I was quite surprised when they bettered the fake Odin Golds-they were slightly smoother and more refined and also felt they were dynamically more "correct" than the fake Golds. The Golds may have been slightly more open in the midrange, and possibly slightly more detailed but I think that "detail" was (as it is in many cases) less detail than it was a very small amount of distortion being introduced by the Golds, which were actually very nice cables in their own right.

The Accuphase USB has exactly the same kind of personality as its power cord and IC siblings: very natural sounding (a slight reduction in glare and edge when compared to the Furutech USB), kind of midhall presentation where nothing sounds forced or "hi-fi". Or at least it sounds less hi-fi.

So as much as it might be a bit of fun to experiment with different male and IEC's on the power cords, I'm content to live with this cabling as it is, and others may also find that it is really great as is. The four sets of IC's cost me $95 Cnd or about $70 and the 5M USB cable was about $45 U.S. Hard to believe. Very highly recommended, even for those who are less inclined to do the experimentation with different connectors etc.

I do have some extra sets of the fake Odin Golds here. Should someone want to purchase and experiment with those they can send me a PM.
