Bending interconnect causes amp hum sound

Checked speaker connection in back of integrated amp. When done I turned on power and got a steady 60hz hum coming from the amp. When I fiddled with the RCA end of my ICs, I could stop the hum by bending the IC part nearest the termination. If I moved it slightly, the hum started again. I resituated the amp in its usual position, reached behind and wiggled the IC til hum stopped. All now seems fine, but what is going on? Have I screwed up the IC by over bending in during re-placement of the amp at a previous time. Sorry for long post but these ICs cost $800 & I'm freakin' out. Can anyone offer help? Thanks.
