I am inclined to say mostly number 2. Because of my budget, I'm limited to primarily the $400 to $500 priced new cables, but nearly always buy used for about half that. The one exception to that is an AQ Thunder power cord which lists for $1,000 that I bought used. I once did buy a used pair of Audioquest Cheetahs that sold for $1,000 nearly 20 years ago. They were definitely "different" in some aspects and better in some areas, but not in others. My experience has been that there are differences beyond the $500 range, but they become more incremental. In my current setup, I'm finding my best results with interconnects using Wireworld Eclipse 8 and 7 models, though I do have a Kimber Hero and Cardas Parsec as well.
