I've been on the same roller coaster with IC's over the years. In fact, had one cable that sounded good at the beginning, then got worse and stayed there. Eventually bought a Hagerman Frybaby which speeds up the process in most but not all cases. Most all of the IC's I'm using now sounded good in the beginning and even if they went thru the "roller coaster", I could still hear their potential throughout the break-in process.
