RCA vs XLR?

I've searched, but I am not getting a definite answer..

Apart from the difference in gain, is there a significant sonic difference between a cable using RCA and XLR connections? I am planning to use the cables between my Aesthetic Rhea Phono and Calypso preamp. Both have the option of choosing between balanced or single ended connection. The distance between them is approx 4 meters.
