Question about HD 14 used as power chord. Ping Dave Pogue, et al

When using the HD 14 wire as PC, do you remove the sheathing and twist the wire or leave it as is and use upgraded terminals?
FWIW, I'm getting ready to make the speaker cables using the shotgun approach. However I thought I only needed 8" runs when in fact they come up 1 ft short. Fortunately I only cut one length and decided to try it before proceeding. so now i have an 8' section with no use. may as well make a PC.
