Any benefit of adding a ground wire to twisted pair interconnect?

Any benefit of adding a ground wire (with spade at the end) to a twisted pair design using no shielding? the ground will be soldered with the neg. wire.
Got the idea when I opened up an older Thorens turntable which had this type of design.
